Moreidlethoughts Weblog

humour, art, gardens, books and whatever idle thoughts float through my mind (it's a very draughty mind.)

Saturday update: the rain continued all night and it is still raining at 0830. Crocodiles have been seen. Hardly surprising and unlikely up on our hill, but it’s just another of the joys of a tropical paradise!

Firstly, we are okay chez Dinahmow.

Well, more okay than some (see link) since we’re on a bit of a hill, but I may not post for a day or two. We’ve had a Niagara from That House up the back, the tarmac is cracking open in several parts of the street, everything smells muddy. But the worst of it? THE OFF-LICENCES, ALL THREE LOCALLY, ARE CLOSED!

See you when we dry out a little.

  1. That’s bloody horrible! I hope that you stored your ‘liquid essentials’ in a flotation device that is secured to the foundation.

The report said 600 milimetres of rain in 6 bloody hours!!?
Let’s see divide by tenths, or is it hundredths, that’s 6 metres, and there is 39 inches in a metre, times 6… BLOODY IMPERIAL…
    that’s 234 inches, 12 inches in a foot equals 19 and a half feet of water…Holy Crap!

I was having trouble adjusting to the Colonial way of Life but I think that I am finally starting to finally get the ‘hang of it’ as they say.

Would you like me to cipher your Temperature in Fareheit?

  2. Oh no! Closed off licences = disaster of biblical proportions. I feel for you. And you weren’t kidding. “The weather bureau says it is the biggest deluge in the region in 90 years” is undeniable fact. Keep shovelling, Di!

  3. donn…(it’s quicker than typing lordtenni..etc!) strange to be “dry” while almost marooned!
And it rained all night(froday) and is still pouring 0600 Saturday.

andrea…yep. it’s a bad one.Thought the low was moving out to sea and North, but it’s either stayed put or turned around to visit us again.

  4. Best wishes for sandbags, or umbrellas or floating honeypots or whatever is the most useful!

    Good luck!

  5. xxxxxxx

    gotta fly (literally!)
