WHAT WILL YOU EAT AT CHRISTMAS?

More storms are forecast. The Wet Season is setting in early this year. Actually…no, it’s not really early. In  times past, this weather and its timing was the norm.

I’ve  had an email from a friend who says she’s just had lunch: cherries, macadamias and a glass of NZ Sauvignon Blanc.

Ahh! Summer in The Great South Land…

Because I’m already fed-up with the malarky that comes around every year at this time…I mean, what sort of miserable little toe-rag nicks the batteries out of a twinkly wreath?

Because, while I’d love to believe that we all really DO love each other( yeah, right!)… excuse me, lady, but just how many frozen pizzas do you really need just because they’re only $10 and how many people are you prepared to elbow out of your way?

And because I love a good laugh…I think we’ll have a Catherine Tate repeat reprise. * This is worth it. Even if you don’t live in Cleethorpes. And if you do live in Cleethorpes… perhaps this will help!

UPDATE WITH A CAPTIONED VIDEO FOR THOSE WHO FIND THE ACCENTS DIFFICULT

Here’s the brilliant Victoria Wood with the also brilliant Julie Walters.

Now, I’m off to do some clever things with a sharp implement…

That’s industry jargon for same old stuff again.

  1. Three Catherine Tate’s later (gaspacho & curry) I’ve torn myself away. I do love her.

Christmas lunch will be prawns, oysters, lobster tails, a ham, fabulous salads, lots of NZ Sauvignon Blanc and good Australian bubbly, more cherrries and macadamias – and for the two vegetarians, one being me, some amazing delight I still have to think up. Boxing Day will be much the same, only the guests will change, or some of them.

Just looking at that list, I’m quite pleased that I’m invited. The three little children will be into all of that, bar the oysters and the alcoholic drinks.

Of course you, Dinah, will be on the verge of up, up, and awaying, so you’ll probably be satisfied with a big apple.

  2. that was brilliant

I’m not really familiar with her (altho she did try to get her children into my children’s primary school, so she can’t be all bad!)

my lot are very strange at Christmas, they come to me (after being at their father’s, his birthday is xmas eve so they are with him for that) and want me to cook the whole lot: turkey, roasties, parsnips, sprouts and chesnuts, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, sausages rolled up in bacon, Christmas pudding and brandy butter – you get it, the works. . .

. . .but none of them actually like any of it (apart from the roasties, they will eat a slice of the turkey but moan that it doesn’t taste like chicken which they prefer) (they do enjoy the pudding going up in flames, even tho they don’t get any further than that)

they just want to know it’s there, because it’s Christmas and that’s how things should be. . .

(fortunately, their father takes them out for a huge lunch on his birthday, so they are not really hungry)

    • The last time I did the “whole thing” was in London. I pulled out all the stops..tree, turkey, flambe pudding, candles, bob-bons. Yep! The works.
But it’s usually far too hot here for all that.
      🙂

    • 5 to 1…that’s pretty good odds! I’ll lay some green on that. 😉

I like the old traditions, too. I just don’t have much patience with the greedy people and they seem to proliferate at this time. And I’ll still be going into the City to see that tree!

  3. Sorry, never heard of Catherine Tate. Looks like I’ve missed out there. Maybe PBS (our public-supported TV channel) will pick her up like they’ve done with East Enders, BBC News. However, I always feel like I need close captioning with East Enders as I can only understand maybe two words out of each sentence.

We generally go out to a really, really nice restaurant for Christmas (five adults – no kids in the family) as no one wants to cook and deal with the clean up afterwards. And everyone goes home happy!

  4. I don’t want to make you jealous, but I actually saw Catherine Tate up in Richmond while having a day out with my DH. That was awhile ago, though.

Christmas lunch here at our house (in England) will probably be very traditional… it will be just the two of us and afterwards we’ll have a nice country walk with the dog.
