Well, it’s really only round #1 in my case since I forgot to post updates last time ’round!

But I’m sure my   mug loyal readers will keep me on my toes.

My challenge is to get in 30 minutes a day on my new toy.

This,folks, is what the living room looked like before I cleared away (most of) the art supplies and put the bike out on the deck. It was only in here while we screwed its bits together. Honest!

Why have I bought an exercise bike when I have glorious beaches just a few minutes away? Well, when the wet season sets in there’s not much walking. Also, I hate the summer heat. But I’ll walk, and swim, whenever I can and do at least 30 minutes a day on the Toy.

Why? I hear you ask. Because  I do not want to become one of those sad old gits who spend more time in McDonalds than out in the fresh air. I have neither the purse nor inclination to join a gym * so this will be one way to keep my creaking old limbs moving. Years of playing hockey and tennis and skating have left me with one or two twinge-y  bits. And also because there’s a supportive blog where those who accepted or imposed a challenge can keep up with each other.

Now, I have a date with some very sharp blades and a block of wood…

* I knew some middle-aged women who joined a keep-fit class and called them selves “The Titswobble Trainers.”

    (I don’t mean to be -ve, but y’know they say you have to do something for 40 days for it to become a habit?) (grimaces) Sorry!


  2. Well good for you. We have such a Toy too. We’ve had it for the best part of 15 years, and already between us we’ve clocked up 210 km. Music-while-you-pedal is the secret. Last movt. of Beethoven’s 7th every weekday allows you the luxury of Air on the G string on Sundays. Also G-strings are very suitable exercise-wear, ask the TTs.


  3. Well, my routine will be early-ish morning, so that means the ABC Radio Classics. That could be anything from Verdi’s Requiem to to Viennese waltz. Or, god help me- The Minute Waltz! 🙂
    G-string? On a bike? I think not.

  5. ah, i wish that I could be so noble, I can’t give up the wine, the F&N, and what little remains of my sanity. The best i can promise is to keep breathing for at least the next 30 days. Here’s hoping!

    After that of course, I may try and get just a tad fitter 🙂

    • Noble? Moi? I’d say more like self-interested. Of course, the known values of chocolat are an added bonus. 😉
      (I’m glad you’ll keep breathing.And sanity can be over-rated! ;-))


  6. Stick with it! It’ll be crazy difficult, especially that second or third time, but the rewards make it well worth the effort. It’ll be all downhill once it becomes part of your lifestyle.


  7. THANK YOU for the bodega cat link. Did you ever see any bodega cats when you lived in NY? I did! All the time and that blog is very cute.

    Well done on the exercise challenge. I must do the same. I’m hardly in good condition and I really have to keep the joints moving or I dread thinking what the next 10 years could be like for my back and hips.


    • Bodega cats? Oh yes! I made friends with a handsome ginger fellow in East Village and there were several at a local pet store.

      If you need encouragement you could join the 30 days challenge.I’m starting slowly, but will keep it up after 30 days. And I have a date at the pool in a few hours! 🙂

    I’m not too keen on gyms myself.

    I don’t think anyone will ask why. Exercise is good. It gives the mind a lift too!

    I’m working up on getting my mum to walk with me early mornings [after Ramadan]. Otherwise, I’m thinking of buying one of those things for her if she doesn’t want to walk outdoors.
